Wednesday Night Trans-Am Support Races

Lest you are wondering, yes, we will have a meet tonight @ Watkins Glen.  It is slated as a non-rated practice but could be rated if the group wants it to be.  We will also do a Showdown afterward.

A fun race with several mishaps entering pit row.  Be advised EVERYONE must slow down going into pit entry or risk blowing by their pit box.  We will be time penalizing those that don't make it into their box.

Just a quick friendly reminder after watching the replay, we need to be more track aware out there men.  Too many drivers assuming they have the track all to themselves.  Too many drivers pushing into people because they aren't going fast enough for them.  Too many people going too hard into braking zones.  Too many people not re-entering the track safely after going off.

I know this is just the Wed night Support race and no season points at stake, but there are ratings points at stake, so please, lets be more careful.

FYI, Apolo was in the wrong build.  He was in a Factory Skyline and should have been in a Privateer.  His rating will remain what it was prior to the race.  1962.043

I had something for work come up from the Hurricane, so I basically had to stop mid-race!

Good race Dino and Don was fun watching the battle. Wish I could've seen then end of it.

Yeah that was a fun one but for the lag outs.

Hey Don, for tonight's race do we still have to use a different care from the previous 3 races? Only asking because the last race of the season we can use any car. Would love to use my Mazda to get the practice! If not, its all good.

Yes you have to use a different car

Won't be an issue in Season 12 Tom. You may have missed that we are slightly changing the Wed night format to a spec-type race.  Everyone will be in the same car each week.  I will announce which car on Saturday for the Wed night Support race.

As promised, Season 12 Support races will be with a selected car from the season each Wed.  This Wed, Sept 9th, we will all be in the 1970 Corvette.  Double check your builds so that you have the latest version.

--Although not the raging beast L88 427, and ZL1 all aluminum 427 of the year before, the small block ZR-1 was special.  It was Chevrolet's answer to how to go road racing in 1970.  The LT-1 350cid small block was spec-ed for lightweight durability and high revving power. Not as powerful as the optional LS7 454cid but not nearly as heavy either. This gave the C3 Vette the balance and agility it needed to eat Ferrari's and Porsches for lunch. Our test model bears this out with very good top speed, handling, and braking, at the expense of some acceleration.

Congrats to ChevyPower for the win and fastest lap of 1:21.410 in the Corvette!  

As usual, of the 4 new drivers only 2 showed up and only 1 finished.  The 2 that didn't race, were available but told me they would let me know when they were ready.  Even though I told them we were qualifying in a few minutes.  

Actually it was PopperKing4207 who was speaking for Oldscoldvr78 it turns out.  He was the guy who thought he was too fast for his rating and then talked Oldskoldvr out of racing.  Originally Oldscol was all for joining but then his buddy Popperking showed up uninvited and started to talk negatively when he was 3sec off the pace is what really happened.

This is why we need a lot more guys, because only 1 out of 4 is going to make it to the checkered flag.  It is incumbent upon everyone who wants to have more fun to get 1 new driver so we can have a full grid.


Next Wed night is the official start of Season 12.  We will be in the Javelin for that race.

Always a threat to be OP for unknown reasons we gave it less hp and with cutting its weight in just the right places, our Jav is on a more equal footing with its leading competitors. --the little 4cyl car that could. Light, cheap, and fun to drive the 510 was a great place to spend time with and win championships! It won its class championship in Trans-Am in 1971 and 1972.  It has really good acceleration and brakes, not so good top speed as usual, and good handling once dialed in. At a smaller track few can keep up with it.
