Okay that was probably the best Daytona race to date! A very fun replay to watch.
Yes, there was some early contact initiated by Rattlesnake, pushing CRC Skitchin off the track on lap 1. It wasn't intentional. However, as everyone knows, the golden rule here at the IFCA is that ANY contact that results in a competitor going off track, you must wait for them to recover their position, regardless of who's fault it is. In this case it did not appear that Rattlesnake was going to wait, but as bad luck would have it, Rattlesnake ended up falling back and behind Skitchin and therefore will not be penalized.
Prior to this incident, CRC Skitchin was uninformed, unaware, uneducated, or ignorant ( in a nice way) of the starting procedure for Daytona, which may have created some confusion leading to unwanted contact. In any case, it is important for every team and driver to know the procedures of the format. Neglect is not only not an excuse, it asks for some sort of reprimand to be issued. Because Skitichin is not a rookie and is, in fact, a prior champion, he should have known or his teammate should have reminded him that at Daytona we always have a rolling 90mph start. He will be issued an official warning. No points are taken, but it does count as a "strike", of which you are only allowed 4 for the season before being disqualified.
Clouse took the pole this time as the Shelby's were at their home track, with a 1:58.686. He also took the track lap record earlier in the week with a 1:58.006. Fastest race lap also went to Clouse with a 1:58.280, just 0.007sec quicker than his teammate Rattlesnake.
2nd on the grid went to another Shelby driver DrkNeo with a 1:58.896, and 3rd on the grid went to past champion RIOT ChevyPower also in a Shelby with a 1:59.035.
Speaking of ChevyPower, he made a surprise return with his former partner CRC Skitchin both of whom won Season 2 as a team. And they didn't disappoint giving Clouse and Rattlesnake a real run for their money in the end. Had they been more practiced they may have even won, but came in a close 2nd place. 3rd on the podium went to newcomers APX TREMEC and DrkNeo also in a Shelby. Team Penske of Incognito and GTDon were sure they were going to be in a last lap battle with the Mini of Team FRB, but mechanical failure struck the Mini, (batteries died) allowing Team Penske to take an easy 4th.
There were all kinds of battles going on most of the race. Sometimes for position, and sometimes just with cars on different pit strategies. None of it looked easy. The Factory drivers with their extra speed were especially hard to pass clean, but our Privateer fast guys did a good job not to run anyone over in the corners. Nice job guys.

We did have quite a few changes in season points position including our new leaders for the season. Some of the changes were directly due to the teams that took advantage of the weekly bonus points for fastest practice laps. Be sure to get credit for your best practice lap by Friday by posting on the leader boards or sending me a picture for Long Beach.

Re: IFCA Trans-Am Season 4 Rnd 2 Daytona night
Does the fast lap have to be in the car we are racing with in the series?
I have a 1:59.8 in Rivals with the 1966 Nova.

Re: IFCA Trans-Am Season 4 Rnd 2 Daytona night
One last word i wanted to mention. High five and job well done to EZT TomCat7! Tom did an outstanding job battling with faster drivers in his Factory Ferrari GTO! He gave Rattlesnake's Privateer Shelby plenty of fight in a controlled
Clean manner. Tom has really come of age in recent races and it is great to see.
