After watching the latest round of the real Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at the new Circuit of the Americas track it was amazing to see how alike our cars are to theirs. The winning GS Class car, the BMW M3 of Auberlen and Lana had a best lap of 2:19.645. The fastest ST car was the winning CJ Wilson Mazda Miata driven by McAleer and Miller at 2:28.015. That's about 11 second difference, but at a track never raced before.
If you look at the averages per class you see that the GS Class averaged 2:23.5s and the ST 2:29.5s. That's a 6sec difference between classes on average at an unfamiliar track. Even so, the leading ST cars (a BMW 135i and Miata just as it was in our own race) were racing just behind a slow GS Mustang. The Mustang Boss 302 was the slowest GS car and was struggling to stay in front of the fastest ST cars just like what happened at Motegi in our race! Although the slowest GS car in our Motegi race was a Mustang GT.
On Speed TV it looked as though the ST cars were closer to the GS cars in performance than ours were because the GS cars were about the same speed in the corners and just a little bit faster on the straights. A GS car could easily get caught up in a pack of ST cars and not get around them until a straight. But when I looked at the averages the real series cars have a wider gap between classes. Problem is, if our cars had this wide a gap the two classes would not overlap on the track as the real cars tend to do in terms of lap times. On average the real cars were 6sec apart between classes, whereas ours are closer to 3secs apart on average. One thing that accounts for this is that Motegi is a tighter track than the Circuit of Amerca track. A longer faster track will favor a larger average lap gap time difference between classes.
However, when we go to adjust some of the cars for season 2, we will try to make the cars just a little more like their real counterparts. The ST class cars will be adjusted downwards, and the GS cars slightly upwards.
Notably the ST class lap times were closer together than the GS times which is also true in our series.

The paint I created for the car I may be able to drive eventually. does it look like a red X to you too? This photo tool isn't very user friendly. Disregard my signature, this time it is the home PC making me look like an idiot.

Re: Series Race Talk
nice x lol
For those of you who might feel your car of choice lacks some performance, fear not, help is on the way for season 2. The GS Class Porsches in particular will get a much needed bump, as will the BMW M3, Aston Martin, Shelby GT500, Boss 302, and Challenger. This is all in an effort to further equalize the cars and have the correct performance gap between the GS and ST classes. Cars in the ST class will be bumped down a tad, like the BMW 135i, Cobalt, Focus, and Miata. These minor changes should make for more equal racing, and place the cars more in-line with the real deal.

Re: Series Race Talk
I'm in favor of a double Porsche bump...
Looking forward to tonight's race, had a great time last week. Fantastic group of clean, fast drivers, it's a pleasure to be apart of this series.

Re: Series Race Talk
Hey guys, sorry but I'm gonna have to withdraw from this series. It was always at an awkward time for me. I'm gonna miss tonight, and my teammate is going to be gone next week, so I think I'll just bow out for now. Good luck to those racing, and my teammate r1ngm4ster was hoping he could continue on as an individual (not in team standings). Please let him know if he can do that. Thanks guys.

Bummer! Okay, we will switch him out to a single, thanks Brizzo.

Must have been a misunderstanding or mistake of some kind.

Re: Series Race Talk
As for lobby 1, all was relatively clean aside from a few minor bumps at the start I think. My race was intense, something about not being able to talk brings on a stress induced sense of urgency and near panic from start to finish! lol
My Challenger is a real handful at Indy. Following the Mustang of Nate, and the Camaro of Kick, all I could do is wait for a mistake, because they were pulling away from me every lap down the straight. Scantraxx checked out meanwhile.
Nate went off the track, and that allowed me to stay with Kick's Camaro for a little while until after the pit when I looped my car for no good reason on cold tires! Nate was battling with the BMW of Predator, but caught up to me after my loop and hounded me for the rest of the race.

corwinKB wrote:lobby B was set to best lap time?
Yeah, Corwin...I made more than one mistake setting up the lobby this evening. Lucky for me, however, the race participants were patient with me and were a huge help in getting things right. An embarrasing situation that I'll just have to deal with.

Re: Series Race Talk
Made a couple of minor errors. I should have done a pit test because I went into the pit lane like grandpa cruising at night and lost a good 5 seconds. I had a few laps where I got a little out of sorts sideways that hurt me a bit. Whoever the guy was who has won both races Scantraxx i think....This guy is gone, the rest of us will be battling for his leftovers.
Good racing though. I had a battle with an orange mustang of Gnashty tate. My poor pit cost me that battle and possibly a battle with you GT Don.
On to Infineon and beyonnnnnddddd
