IFCA Relay Challenge Season 4 June 8th Muscle-Car-Masters-1a

Welcome to the introduction of Season 4 of the IFCA Relay Challenge, Saturday, June 8th, 6:00 EST!

Season 4 will incorporate all of the Season 3 cars with the addition of every known car that raced in the original Trans-Am series.  This includes all the under 3.0L import cars. We included a few cars that did not race in the actual Trans-Am series but were from that period to make up for some of the cars Forza 7 doesn't have.

With the data collected from Season 3 we were able to equalize the cars extremely well while still retaining their original performance and handling characteristics.  These are specific build cars with stock suspension, adjustable final drives, adjustable roll bars, adjustable brakes, and adjustable differentials only.  Power is roughly the same or higher than the actual cars placing them in mid to low A-Class or under 500hp for the over 3.0L cars, and under 400hp for the under 3.0L crowd.

Each car has two types of builds depending on a drivers IFCA numeric rating.  Drivers unrated or rated above 1950.000 may only use the "Privateer" build for each car.  Drivers below the rating of 1949.999 are allowed to use the superior "Factory" build which typically is lighter, better handling, and more powerful.  In this way, slower drivers can have total confidence that they are in a faster car, and can gain parity with the faster driver who is in the slower build, if they work at it.

As with previous seasons, there is a 12 team limit or 24 drivers in total.  Any number of teams may attempt to qualify but only the top 12 fastest teams get in.  The lap times from both teammates are added together and divided by 2 to get your team average lap time. You'll get just 2 chances to qualify at the Season 4 qualy track which is going to be Homestead Road Course.  Homestead is also the first track on the schedule.

Qualifying opens Saturday, May 25th thru Saturday, June 1st.  You can make your 2 attempts any time in those two weeks prior to the race on Saturday, June 8th by contacting GTDon2, or FRB Incognito.  Or, just join our practice lobby when we are on.  You can use any Trans-Am car listed for qualifying independent of your teammate, and it doesn't have to be the car you use for the season either.  Once the season starts you both have to be in the same car (and livery).  After the first 3 races, you are then allowed to change out the car you are in if you think you made an incorrect choice at that point.

This is the only format where you get to cooperatively race as a synergistic team in real time helping each other get to the finish line.

Here's how it works: You and your teammate take turns (stints) in relay fashion in a 29lap race. At the start one driver will be the lead-off driver for the first stint, while the other driver drives to the pit to park at pit exit and wait for his turn in ghosted form. Both of you will do 2 pit stops, and then a final mandatory pit at the end of the 21st lap. Once you both have completed your 21st lap, you both leave the pits together for the first time to finish the remaining 8 laps together in tandem.

Both drivers are required to pit on the same lap number for each pit stop.  The first 2 pits can be whatever your team decides.  It can be on lap 7 and 14, or 5 and 13, or even 2 and 10, Whatever number your partner pits on has to be the same as you. The "goal" is to get to the end of the 21st lap and mandatory pit as fast as possible, so you both can finish the last 8 laps together on the same lap and ahead of your rivals. Everyone is required to pit at the end of lap 21. The exchange of drivers happens when one driver exits the pits and goes through the waiting ghosted driver, Once contact is made the waiting driver can then leave to start his stint while his car becomes solid again.

In the end, the team with the best combined average finishing position wins!  If there is a tie, the team with the highest pre-race average IFCA computer rating wins!    But it's not just about the wins and losses, we also offer a series of performance bonus points for fastest clean race lap, track lap record, pole position, and half point bonuses for having posted a top 5 lap time for the T/A class during the week. That way there are incentives to push hard all week no matter your skill level or season points.

This season we are going to make a concerted effort to cordially invite each league (TORA, SimR, FRB, IFCA, etc) to field 1 team that represents their league to qualify.  We are doing this as a way to show our solidarity with the organized racing all leagues do, and hopefully, unify the league community by giving everyone something new and fun to cheer about.
