NASCAR Rankings

More or less as a fun comparison and experiment of accuracy I thought I'd rate actual NASCAR drivers and see how they compare to our own drivers, and see just how accurate the IFCA ratings computer will be when you compare their ratings and rankings to their actual points standings.
 
The scale is actually the same as we use but because these drivers are arguably the best in the world with many champion drivers from other motorsports competing like F1, IRL, ALMS, ASC the starting rating for the #1 driver had to be higher. Because of this level of serious talent, the ratings they are given start at a higher estimation, but within the scale that our own best drivers could achieve if they competed with the highest rated drivers in the IFCA World Rankings.
 
Defending NASCAR 2012 Champion Brad Keselowski was provisionally rated at 2701, and everyone else rated 1 point lower per finishing point position on the year. This gives us a very close group of champions to start rating.

Fascinating to see the results of the IFCA Ratings Computer with the NASCAR Drivers. The ratings roughly follow the series points results, but are more indicative of how well each driver is currently driving. Some are driving better than the series points they have accumulated. Others have more points than they probably should have considering their recent poor driving skills on the track. What it says is that there are a lot of variables, including the team aspect that can hinder or enhance a drivers results. The IFCA computer rankings are a snapshot of which drivers are "hot" and which are not on a week to week basis. Although not the actual points leader Kyle Busch has recorded the highest driver rating to date at 2762. No real surprise as he is often considered the most talented driver in the world of motorsports and not just NASCAR. But being an elite driver is not always enough to win in NASCAR. You need a great team and car too, and some luck.
