NASCAR 2012 Daytona 500 Empty NASCAR 2012 Daytona 500

This was my first nascar race since I was little, obviously outside of the Labonte's, Mark Martin, and a few others most of the people I grew up watching are long past retired and we got a new era of racers, new rules, new...well a lot of new for me anyways...

So here is my take on what I watched today. --- My heart was pumping the second the first green flag dropped and I didn't turn from the TV. All these years i bashed NASCAR for "turning left" and driving fast, and all that is in the past I recognize the amount of skill and long hours that goes into putting together a race - and I was deeply saddened at the site of Juan Pablo Montoya's wreck with the safety car only to be relieved to see that he walked away (and the driver of the truck) with minimal injuries if any at all...

So to summarize - I got new respect for nascar, I haven't watched enough of it to see if I will be a long term fan, but like other forms of racing that have gotten my attention lately (DTM, ALMS, Rolex Grand Am, BTCC, etc.) I am willing to be open minded and I think with a little more knowledge of fundamental racing and a better understanding I might be able to consider myself a fan, not just an observer.

It was a great race! Got to stay up way past my bedtime, too Laughing

On Montoya's Accident, here's my opinion: No penalty for Montoya (it was a mechanical failure). NASCAR should put in some sort of rule regarding speeds under caution. Do we really want this to happen again!?

Also, I hope they can find a way to repave the burnt portion in turn 3.

On the finish: In Biffle's interview, I think he just made an excuse to not let Jr. push him to the win over his teammate. Jr. just chose the wrong partner since there was really no one around him that could work with him on the final restart.

No rain: Just helps prove that "vortex theory" that Larry Mac explained a while back.

Great race, I wish the finish could be better, though. Going to Phoenix next week. Very Happy

Jr. came off as a crybaby after the race, did he really think Biffle was gonna let him pass him partner? lol

I enjoyed the race none the less, I felt bad for Danica after all she's been through just trying to become a legit NASCAR racer, crash after crash (not her fault for the most part) and she was part of nearly 3 wrecks yesterday, obviously all that experience michael and DW talked about is helping her stay in the races though and the fact that she raced Indy Car for so long gives her an advantage over someone like Blaney who came from the outlaws and lower cups (im guessing)
