IFCA Triple Crown car builds
IFCA Triple Crown car builds
Saturday, Oct 24th 7:00PM est
Tracks of the 2nd "IFCA Triple Crown" raced on 3 consecutive Saturdays on Oct 24th starting at 7pm EST
1.Road Atlanta 40laps x3 drivers + 2 pit stops per driver
2.LeMans (old) 13laps x3 drivers + 2 pit stops per driver
3.Nurburgring 8laps x3 drivers + 2 pit stops per driver
1. 1960 Chevrolet Corvette 283cid V8
2. 1958 Aston Martin DBR1 3.0L I6
3. 1957 Maserati 300 S 3.0L I6
4. 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa 3.0L V12
5. 1956 Jaguar D-Type 3.0L I6
6. 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder 1.5L Flat 4cyl
7. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR 3.0L I8
Each race will be approximately 3hrs long utilizing 3-man teams. Each driver will drive one of the 1hr legs/stints and pit 2 times during his race. There is no mandatory pit lap, drivers may pit whenever they like.
All 3 drivers begin the race and stay in the race until they complete their stint. After their stint is complete they can choose to stay or leave. Driver #1 leads the race at the start while driver #2 and #3 drive around to the pits and park at pit exit to wait their turn. Each team is in their own private party during the race.
After driver #1 completes his last lap he comes in to tag Driver #2 who will do his laps and 2 pits stops before tagging the anchor Driver #3. When anchor Driver #3 finishes the race at the end of his last lap it trips the end race timer, he will park at turn 1 as will every 3rd leg driver in the order they finished so that we can collect the correct order of finish.
There will be a bonus point for the fastest clean lap. Grid will be determined by the combined average team rating of each team unless we have more than 8 teams. More than 8 teams means we will have a 1 time 4lap qualy prior to the race. Each team will pick their driver to qualify for the team.
Each team is required to have at least 1 Factory level driver with a rating of not more than 1958.999 (Bronze driver skill). Ratings will be frozen after the last Wed prior to each race on Saturdays. If qualifying must occur because we have more than 8 teams applying, it will be between Wed and Sat
There will be a Factory level build for this Triple Crown event.

Re: IFCA Triple Crown car builds
Looks like we might have time for one more IFCA Triple Crown in 2021.

Triple Crown ideas
We are in the process of selecting a certain group of cars for the next Triple Crown in 2021. The leaning is towards IMSA cars and possibly the early prototype cars. We'd like to go with our simple open build model which is so popular currently but will have to test it to see how it works with these cars. We don't want it to be the case that only 1 car from a group is going to be competitive.

We did a superficial test scan of the Early Prototype Racers division and figured out a good formula that works so that all the cars can be competitively used. Basically, if you are a Bronze level driver you would be allowed to do anything to the car builds and still keep them in P-Class. But if you are a Silver level driver or higher, you would be forced to use the heaviest wheels and only allowed a brake upgrade. No widest tires, no engine upgrades.
What this does is give the slower drivers a level of equality they haven't experienced before. They can take the fastest cars and max them out while the fast drivers are limited to an underbuilt car that only has brakes.
It sounds almost unfair on paper, but because these are extreme cars it is very hard for the slower drivers to drive them to the limit. So while they have a superior car, they haven't the skill to fully utilize it. The fast guys would be in heavier cars with less power and less road holding ability but because they can drive them to the limit would be able to keep up.
It would really force the fast guys to put on their best game face, and the slower guys would be a real threat to podium.
We will be taking a look at the GT Racing Reborn division next...

Looks like we will be going with the Early Prototype Racers division.
This time around we will not require that each 3 man team have a Bronze level driver. The reason is because the Bronze level (Factory) build is significantly superior to what the Privateer (Silver and above) drivers get to use. It means that as a Bronze level driver you are on a near equal footing with the faster Silver and Gold drivers performance-wise. So, there is no need. In fact it could even be advantageous to have an all Bronze level team.
The tentative schedule for the 2021 IFCA Triple Crown is March 6th, 13th, and 20th. Tracks to be announced later.
